We are a couple living in Brussels and love to travel.
Although we do not select our travel destination based on the WHS list, we find the list a good guide to discover a country's most interesting (and sometimes otherwise overlooked) sites.

Aldabra Atoll

We visited Aldabra for two days at the end of February with a ship going from Tanzania (Zanzibar) to the Seychelles, making several stops along the way (the other way around is also possible, we crossed our ship’s sister ship near Assumption island). Aldabra is the world's second largest coral atoll (after Kwajalein, part of the Marshall Islands we were told) and the largest raised atoll.
There doesn’t seem to be a standard plan or schedule to land on Aldabra since the expedition team had to negotiate with the Seychelles Islands Foundation (or SIF, which manages a.o. Aldabra) before we could set foot on the atoll

Mid August we visited the Sardona region for a couple of days. As mentioned in the description, the area is most famous for the ‘Glarus thrust’ whereby older mountains are located on top of younger mountains because of movement of the earth's crust. Below some practical points with respect to the three hikes we did in and around the core zone.
Elm: from the small village of Elm, the Tschinglenbahn cable car goes to the Tschinglenalp where a relatively short and easy hike to the Firstboden viewpoint starts

Surtsey is sometimes called the newest place on earth since it only rose up out of the sea in 1963.
As mentioned below, the island is off limits to tourists and only a handful of scientists are allowed to stay there, which makes it very hard to visit Surtsey. Nevertheless, we gave it a try starting with the tips provided in other reviews, i.e. we contacted SACA to sail to Surtsey in a small Rib boat.
The people at SACA were very helpful, answered all of our questions and even provided us with an overview of the route. However, the price was above our budget/what we wanted to spend so we asked SACA if there were other interested parties willing to share a boat and the cost. There was indeed a fellow WHS enthousiast wanting to go to Surtsey but unfortunately our travel dates did not match.

Although this site already received a number of reviews, we will add another since it seems that none of the reviewers managed to get a look at the inside of the buildings.
In high season there are regular guided tours during which the buildings can be visited. In principle the tours are in Swedish, but the (very knowledgeable) guide also made the translation in English for us. The tours are in very small groups but since we visited the site in 2020 / covid times, we don’t know if this is always the case.

Last weekend we watched the Werner Herzog documentary Cave of Forgotten Dreams about the Chauvet cave (Decorated cave of Pont d'Arc), triggering this review since we visited the cave last summer.
Since the original cave is closed for visitors and one has to do with a replica cave, the documentary is the only way to admire the beautiful cave art. The replica cave is of course not the real deal, but we must admit that it does not feel fake and that they succeeded very well in copying the actual cave. Some time ago we also visited the Lascaux replica and we found this one the best of the two.
